Positive-side vs negative-side waterproofing
Positive-side waterproofing is applied to the outside face of a wall, where the water comes from. It is the preferred approach for new construction and whenever excavation is possible. Negative-side waterproofing is applied to the inside face and must resist water pushing it off the wall — it is often the only practical option for existing basements.
